His research focus encompasses all topics related to atrial fibrillation, including symptom management, stroke prevention, and ablation techniques.

    Affiliation: Dr. Curtis is the Charles and Mary Bauer Professor of Medicine, Distinguished Professor of Medicine, and Chair of the Department of Medicine at the State University of New York at Buffalo. She is a Past President of the Heart Rhythm Society and a recipient of their Distinguished Service Award. Her research interests include implantable device therapy and clinical trials in atrial fibrillation. She was the Principal Investigator of the Block HF trial and has been on the steering committees of many other trials of implantable device therapy. Dr. Curtis has over 270 peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and reviews. She is a member of the Association of University Cardiologists.

    Affiliation: Dr. Aryana is a classically-trained cardiac electrophysiologist at the Mercy General Hospital and Dignity Health Heart and Vascular Institute in Sacramento, California. He received his training at the Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts. His research interests include catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia and left atrial appendage closure as alternative therapy to oral anticoagulation. Dr. Aryana serves as an international proctor for the procedure of cryoballoon ablation of atrial fibrillation. In addition, he has a special interest in epicardial ablation. He is also the principal faculty and director of a nationally-recognized epicardial course which provides hands-on training to invasive cardiologists and cardiac electrophysiologists.

He has been faculty and staff electrophysiologist at Mount Sinai School of Medicine for last 23 years.

He moved to Canada in 2002 and completed a clinical/research fellowship in Interventional Cardiac Electrophysiology from the University of Toronto and associated Toronto General Hospital. Dr. Nair has also completed his MSc. in Health Research Methodology form McMaster University. He served as a faculty in the Division of Cardiology at McMaster University from 2004 to 2012. Dr. Nair joined the Division of Cardiology at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute at the rank of Associate Professor on the 1st of October 2012. Dr. Nair’s current research interests lie in the fields of Atrial Fibrillation, Sudden Cardiac Death and Ventricular tachycardia with a specific focus on evaluating treatment strategies and knowledge transfer. His clinical focus is on complex ablations including Atrial Fibrillation, Ventricular Tachycardia and arrhythmias in the grown up congenital heart disease population.

    Affiliation: Dr Hugh Calkins is the Nicholas J. Fortuin M.D. Professor of Cardiology and Professor of Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He also is the Director of the Clinical Electrophysiology Laboratory, the Atrial Fibrillation Center, the Arrhythmia Service, and the Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Dysplasia Program at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. He received his cardiology fellowship training at Johns Hopkins. Dr Calkins trained in electrophysiology at Johns Hopkins and at the University of Michigan. Dr Calkins has published more than 400 manuscripts and more than 50 book chapters. The focus of his research efforts have been on atrial fibrillation, catheter ablation, syncope, and arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia. Dr Calkins is on the editorial board of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Circulation, Heart Rhythm, the Journal of Interventional Electrophysiology, and Circulation Arrhythmia and Electrophysiology. He is also the principal investigator and chair of the Canadian Stroke Prevention Intervention Network (CSPIN), which is conducting a series of clinical trials related to atrial fibrillation and stroke prevention and will also support the development of new Canadian researchers in this field.     Affiliation: Dr. Marcin Kowalski is the Director of Cardiac Electrophysiology Laboratory and the Associate Director of Cardiac Fellowship Program at Staten Island University Hospital. His research interests include implantable device therapy and clinical trials in atrial fibrillation. His recent projects include prevention of injury of the phrenic nerve during cryoballoon ablation of atrial fibrillation. He was trained as an electrical engineer. His early interests were in the clinical pharmacology of antiarrhythmic drugs and ambulatory ECG monitoring.
